easter sunday

This is Rosie's third Easter (here's last year), but we haven't really talked much about what Easter means. (It's not easy to explain!) Yesterday Jack asked her, "Do you know why we are so happy on Easter Sunday?"

"Yes," she said, "because we get married!" No idea where she came up with that. I actually didn't even know that she knew the word married.

At church today Rosie experienced her first Easter egg hunt. The eggs weren't all filled with candy...her favorite prizes were nail polish and temporary tattoos (she's now wearing three).

Sleepy parents.

meatless monday: postpartum edition

Well, my computer just ate the pictures that I was going to post tonight.

I had some great shots of Rosie and Mimi using the kid's gardening tools that Rosie got in the mail today from Aunt Birdie. They planted some snapdragons and nasturtiums.

And I had a picture of our dinner. Thoughtful friend Whitney brought us spinach quiche, cheese grits, fruit salad and pumpkin scones. It was delicious. And, though I hadn't even thought of it all day, it was monday and it was meatless!

second day

This was yesterday.

It's harder to obsessively take photos of your second born.
It's a good thing my mom is here. I'm exhausted. But Rosie's not.

owen's first day

Introducing Owen Howard Peterson, who entered the world at 9:55 am on April 12, 2011, 21 inches long and weighing 8 lbs 15 oz: our dearly loved son!

I actually went into labor Monday night, just like we prayed. More pics and details after I nap.

fifty pounds

After I gave birth to Rosie, it took more than a year for me to lose the baby weight. But by the time she was 18 months, it was gone. Frankly, I was skinny. Skinnier than I'd been since I lived in Vietnam.

That's me ten months ago. Now, at 41 weeks pregnant, I have officially gained fifty pounds. Here is a picture (taken today) which artfully disguises the pounds that have have gone to my thighs and hips while displaying the extreme roundness of my belly.

I've had contractions every day (or, more often, every night) for the last week. My newest "ideal" time to go into labor is tomorrow night, so please pray that way, and forgive my narcissistic blogging tendencies. Amen.

the due date

Last time I went into labor on my due date. Sure, Rosie wasn't born for three more days, but in my memory it's more like one neverending day, so I don't feel like she was late.

Did you know that only 5% of babies are born on their due dates? But 80% are born within two weeks of their due dates.

Today is Owen's due date. I've had so many more aches and pains with the third trimester of this pregnancy than I did with Rosie (with Rosie, there was really nothing but swollen hands and feet) that I thought for sure Owen would be earlier than she was.

But, here I am, waiting, nothing but a few Braxton Hicks contractions going on for the past week.

Jack's mom got here on Thursday. It's so nice having someone else to help entertain Rosie, pick her up and down, and help me keep the house somewhat clean.

Thunderstorms all day today. I made deep dish brownies and went walking in the mall. I've been walking every day.

Meatless Monday was a repeat for us: spicy soba noodles. Tasty. Maybe the little bit of Korean chili paste that was in it will kick things into gear. I hope so.

(And, PS, I'm a little behind on 12 in 12. My third book is Mark Twain's Autobiography, and while it's interesting and amusing, it's not exactly compelling. Plus, it's an enormous hardback, and it's too much to curl up with comfortably.)
